Mike and Cammie Wilson knew when they became engaged they wanted to find a home they could both call “theirs.” Mike had a home in Traditions, and Cammie in Briarwood, but they
wanted to begin their marriage by building something together.

They began looking and were very drawn to the peaceful lots and views in Olde Stone. “The view here got us. We wanted a small yard with a beautiful view and this location was just perfect,” said Cammie. As a surprise to Cammie, Mike made a bid on their lot the day before they were married. They previously enjoyed being members of Olde Stone and spending time at the club for dinner and gatherings and using the pool and gym, so building their home in a place they loved was ideal. Adding a feeling of safety and security from a gated community helped add to the peace and quiet they love.

The couple had decided on a house plan they found for a craftsman style home, the Careymere Plan, and knew they wanted to use builder Mark Caudill with Caudill Design and
Construction. Mark partners with designer Ashley Rimel. She and Cammie became fast
friends working together on their home. “I always heard how stressful it was to build but it wasn’t stressful at all. I trusted them and gave my input but they narrowed choices and design to my style and made it easy for us,” said Cammie.

“Having something to do, a project, during the pandemic was great. We dealt with a lot in a short amount of time, being newlyweds, building a home, the pandemic and losing Mike’s Mom,” said Cammie. But they both agree that building the house was never a stressor and actually brought them closer together. “Our first date, we met at breakfast for several hours and it was just comfortable. We hit it off. We were old souls, like we had been old friends for years. It was natural,” said Mike. “Building the house was the same way, it was just easy between us,” he said. The home features roughly 3,000 ft with three bedrooms and three and a half bathrooms on two floors and a quarter of an acre lot, overlooking a breathtaking view of Olde Stone golf course in their back yard. Mark had ideas to customize and update the plan and it made all the difference. “The ideas Mark and Ashley came up with and incorporated made the house absolutely perfect for us,” said the Wilsons. Mike and Cammie said Mark’s integrity was the highest they’ve ever seen, with him being proactive and transparent throughout the entire process.

When it came to the interior of the home, Cammie knew there were a few things she had to have and Ashley helped her create just the look she wanted. “Her style was fairly traditional and we knew we wanted a light and airy result. She loved blue kitchens so we chose to paint the island blue as an accent to the white kitchen, and then carried the blue into the living room builtins as well,” said Ashley. “I always loved blue and white kitchens, and my blue and white Juliska dishes from Barbara Stewart Designers so we went with it and it turned out amazing,” said Cammie. 

Cammie also knew she wanted a Kentucky Room to display her love for all things Kentucky, including horses, KY Derby, maps and bourbon. Ashley came up with the creative idea for the door to be bookshelves in the hallway, and open into the hidden room.

“We just love it,” said Cammie. The artwork in the room includes an 1877 Warren County map that has been passed down in her family and several horse prints including some from the Pepper Distillery in Lexington and one from Cammie’s grandmother, a KY artist. Cammie’s collector Derby glasses are proudly displayed along with a great selection of bourbon and a bourbon barrel they had signed at their wedding.

Mike’s favorite area of the home is the patio and the dining room because of the view. The couple spend most of the time in the living room but love everything about the home including their large spa-like master bathroom. They only kept two couches from their previous homes and chose to newly furnish the home from local businesses including Bowling Green Home Furnishings, Embellish Home, Thornton’s Furniture and Barbara Stewart Interiors.
