Kyle and Kaleigh Davenport have spent nearly two years dreaming of their new, custom build after purchasing an acre lot in a new phase of the of the South Glen Gables neighborhood off Nashville Road. Now that their family is living that dream, they couldn’t be happier with the reality.
“We love the way the home turned out after working on it for so long,” Kaleigh says. “Everything about it is so light and airy. We never turn lights on because we love all of the natural light. It is so open and we just feel peaceful here.”

The Davenports worked with Roger Bullion of J & R Contracting to design and build their home. Coming in just under 4,000 square feet, with four bedrooms, three full bathrooms and two half bathrooms, the home is truly the result of lots of collaboration. Bullion and the Davenports worked through 13 drafts of the layout before construction began. Kaleigh had a distinct vision for the home and how it would best serve their family’s needs and Bullion made that vision come to life for the family.

“I found a blueprint of a home I really liked and it had several of the features we wanted, but we needed to scale it to fit our family” Kaleigh says. “We met and made tweaks and Roger would work to get the changes in to the design. But, through all of that, Roger was nothing short of absolutely fantastic. We didn’t have one hiccup along the way and I know how rare that is. We would build again because of the experience we had with him.”

Bullion has built custom homes for the last 10 years. He provides homeowners with a full schedule at the beginning of each build so that each homeowner knows when decisions need to be made without feeling rushed. This also ensures that the construction process stays on track. “When I create the schedule, homeowners know when everything will get done,” Bullion says. “The Davenports worked with that schedule and nothing got delayed. They made their decisions about things like cabinets, flooring and tile so that we could have it ready for that portion of the build.”

Kaleigh worked with Liz Bradley, owner and designer of LuLu’s Fine Home Furnishings, to furnish and style the home. “Kaleigh’s style leans toward a simple, organic and contemporary feel,” Bradley says. “She loves to mix new pieces with older, unique finds. It’s a style I love as well, so working with Kaleigh made it fun and exciting.”

One of the Davenport’s favorite pieces in the home is a dresser featured in the master bedroom. “It was just one of the many great finds we discovered at Lulu’s,” Kaleigh says. “I just love the antique look of it, and how substantial it looks in the room.”

Many of the sconces and light fixtures in the home were salvaged from businesses in downtown Bowling Green. One of those lights hangs over their bar, which was purchased for the Davenports by a family member and has been with the family since their first home. In this home, they designed a spot just for the piece next to the kitchen area.

“We designed the whole home to work for our family,” Kaleigh says. “Every inch is utilized and there is a purpose for each space in the home. It’s not going to be for everyone, but it is what fits our lifestyle.” The home is full of so many unique spaces including a home gym, a loft area for the Davenports’ children that overlooks the first floor living space, a large fully-functional pantry that Kaleigh wanted for easy meal preparation and a big front porch.

“I want my kids to be able to run into the pantry with their friends and grab something and go and I wanted a big front porch, which isn’t really common around here,” Kaleigh says. “We grew up in Muhlenberg County and everyone has a front porch. I wanted somewhere to sit and watch the kids play and we love the space out there.”

Their kids are one of the main reasons the Davenports decided to build in the neighborhood where they had already been living. They loved South Glen Gables for so many reasons, but the community they built there was top of the list. “We built where we had already lived because we have such good friends that live out here, so we love it,” Kaleigh says. “We feel like it’s safe and the kids have friends to play with and that’s really all that matters right now. We wanted them to able to go outside and just be children. We just love it.”

Not long after the Davenports settled into life into their new home they were able to show it off to the public and help others considering a new home project. The home was featured in the 2022 Builders Association of South Central Kentucky Parade of Homes this past September. The home won awards for Best Master Suite, Best Kitchen Design and the Overall People’s Choice Award!
