Leading Ladies: Sarah Jarboe

Story by Amelia Bowen
For English, Lucas, Priest & Owsley partner Sarah Jarboe, the most rewarding aspect of practicing law is helping clients achieve their objectives while navigating increasingly complex environmental and regulatory challenges. Whether working collaboratively with regulators and stakeholders to find common ground or advocating for clients in contested matters, she focuses on practical solutions that protect her clients’ interests and position them for long-term success. “I believe economic development and environmental protection go hand in hand,” Sarah says. “My mission is to help clients achieve both, creating lasting benefits for the communities they serve.” Although Sarah always knew she wanted to pursue a legal career focused on problem solving, her time at Vanderbilt Law School revealed the importance of connecting her work to a purpose she deeply cared about. Having grownup in rural Daviess County, she developed an early appreciation for the natural world, making environmental law a natural path. Today, she assists businesses, local governments and a wide range of industries with permitting, compliance, litigation and long-term regulatory strategy. Her approach to leadership was shaped through close mentorship with her law partner, LaJuana Wilcher, who demonstrated that true professional success is built on meaningful relationships and supporting those around you. Inspired by Ruth Bader Ginsburg’s ability to disagree respectfully while remaining firm in her convictions, Sarah brings civility, respect and purpose to her work. “Strong leadership means having the confidence to chart a course forward while bringing people along with you,” Sarah says. “The best leaders help others understand decisions, listen respectfully and create an environment where people feel empowered.” The values that drew Sarah to environmental law also shape her community involvement as Board Chair of Friends of Mammoth Cave National Park. She and her family also actively support St. Joseph Catholic Church and School, where her faith serves as a steady foundation. At home in Bowling Green, Sarah and her husband, David, spend their free time enjoying life with their three young children. To recharge, Sarah enjoys diving into novels and escaping to Reid’s Livery Winery with friends for horseback riding and a glass of wine. “Choose work that aligns with your values, not just your talents,” Sarah says. “The greatest fulfillment comes from using your skills in a way that reflects what you truly care about.”
