Leading Ladies: Tammy Hammers

Story by Amelia Bowen
When Tammy Hammers first entered banking as a teller right out of high school, she planned on becoming an elementary school teacher. While pursuing a marketing degree at Western Kentucky University, she fell in love with the financial industry. After gaining experience in account opening and loan processing, she joined American Bank & Trust to focus on deposits and client relations. Today, Tammy assists clients with personal and business accounts, guides them through online banking and supports her team in delivering exceptional care. “My mission is to show up for people with kindness, honesty and support, helping them feel under-stood, confident and taken care of,” Tammy says. Through industry shifts and changing interest rates, Tammy has learned that banking is about far more than numbers. Her leadership philosophy centers on supporting her team and building lasting relationships. “Strong leadership is about showing up for your team, sharing the workload and learning from each other,” Tammy says. “Helping your team grow, keeping them learning and making sure they feel appreciated every single day, that is what real success looks like.” Outside work, the Ekron native and United Way volunteer enjoys time with her husband John and their sons, Jacob and James. “All you can do is your best every day,” Tammy says. “Be happy for others, keep going and trust that you are capable of anything.”
