Bowling Green’s 40 Under 40: Shelby McIntyre

Meeting people in their most vulnerable moments requires a rare blend of strength, listening and profound empathy, qualities Glasgow native Shelby McIntyre brings to work every single day. As a hospice social worker, bereavement coordinator and volunteer coordinator at TJ Regional Health, Shelby guides patients and families through end-of-life transitions with steady care and dignity. Her career evolved from foster care case management and children’s therapy into medical social work, where she discovered her true calling. Shelby earned her bachelor’s degree from Western Kentucky University and her master’s degree from Campbellsville University. Outside her professional duties, she connects families to vital local resources through the Community Relief Fund, supports local animal welfare and serves in the children’s ministry at Highland Hills Church. Her spirit of service is a family affair. Every Thanksgiving, Shelby and her family partner with her sister’s catering business to prepare and serve warm meals to local neighbors in need. “I believe some of life’s most meaningful moments happen when we show up for people during difficult seasons,” Shelby says. At home, Shelby and her husband, Nic, focus on raising their two children, Gracelyn and Garrison. Whether they are exploring the outdoors or simply relaxing at home, family remains the heart of everything she does.
