Community Leaders in Finance, Insurance & Law: Banterra Bank

Story by Amelia Bowen

While Banterra Bank may be a new name for many Bowling Green residents, its investment in the community is already well underway. Since 2022, the bank has partnered with local developers and businesses to support growth across the market, helping move projects forward and invest in the future. This fall, Banterra will take the next step in the commitment with the opening of a fullservice bank branch at 760 Lovers Lane. Banterra is based in Southern Illinois and has more than 40 locations in Illinois, Indiana, Missouri, Kentucky (Paducah and soon Bowling Green), Arizona and Utah, including small towns as well as metropolitan cities such as Salt Lake City, Scottsdale and St. Louis. The bank began in 1975 and has grown from its agricultural roots to a regional financial institution that is a strong supporter of commercial development. With more than $3.3 billion in assets, Banterra combines the resources of a large bank with the personalized services of a community-focused institution. “Banterra became interested in the Bowling Green market after discovering the positive growth and how well it fit with our core footprint and lending focus,” says Julie Keith, Commercial Lender for the Bowling Green market. Julie joined Banterra in 2024 after recognizing the bank’s lending strength, commitment to personal service and overall culture. A graduate of Western Kentucky University, the Kentucky Bankers Association General Banking School, the Kentucky Bankers Association Commercial Banking School and the LSU Graduate School of Banking, she brings more than 23 years of banking experience to the Bowling Green community. Banterra offers personal and business banking services including conveniences like online account opening and digital banking. They have a passionate commitment to helping individuals and businesses plan for the future, offering smart deposit solutions, business loans with a strong lending capacity for economic development and competitive treasury management services. They also provide multi-milliondollar FDIC insurance through IntraFi® Network Deposits, which gives customers the opportunity to work only with Banterra while their deposits are made within a network of banks. The bank’s focus extends beyond financial services. Community involvement remains a core part of its culture and as Banterra continues to grow in South Central Kentucky, the team plans to actively support local charities, civic organizations and initiatives that strengthen the community. Julie says one of the things she appreciates most about Bowling Green is the shared commitment to growth and opportunity. “Everyone in the community shares a common goal — to build an economically strong, beautiful place where individuals can grow and thrive,” she says. As Banterra prepares to open its first Bowling Green branch, the goal remains simple: provide local businesses, families and community leaders with the resources, expertise and personal service needed to help them thrive. By combining regional strength with a local presence, Banterra is positioning itself as a long-term partner in Bowling Green’s continued success.
