Local Business Spotlight: Everyday BG Melinda Hutcheson
Story by Amelia Bowen
What started as a simple way to share favorite spots around town has grown into a go-to resource for discovering all that Bowling Green has to offer. Founded by Melinda Hutcheson, Everyday BG began as an Instagram page highlighting local businesses, events and hidden gems. Over the past four years, it has evolved into a platform designed to connect the community with the people, places and experiences that make the city unique. Through social media features, curated guides and a growing directory-style website, Melinda provides an accessible and authentic way for businesses to share what they do. The platform is intentionally designed to feel natural rather than overly promotional, allowing followers to discover new spots in a way that feels genuine and engaging. The Everyday BG website continues to expand as a local guide, offering listings for everything from service providers and artists to small businesses and events. A community calendar, available to view or subscribe to, allows anyone to stay up to date on what is happening around town, with free event submissions open to the public. Melinda also offers content sessions for businesses, creating social media ready visuals they can use on their own platforms, along with opportunities for upgraded visibility through featured placements and sponsorships. The idea for Everyday BG came from personal experience. While helping a family member with a small business, Melinda saw firsthand how limited and expensive advertising options could be. Creating a space where businesses of all sizes could gain exposure became the driving force behind the platform. That accessibility remains a key part of what sets Everyday BG apart. From large companies to home-based businesses, Melinda works with a wide range of clients, offering opportunities that feel approachable and attainable. At the same time, the platform serves a dual purpose. While it supports local businesses, it also acts as a resource for the community, helping residents find what they need and explore new experiences throughout Bowling Green. Originally from Louisville, Melinda moved to Bowling Green in 2010 to attend Western Kentucky University and quickly felt at home. She and her husband married in 2018 and are raising their growing family here, staying active in the community through local organizations, church and recreational activities. As Bowling Green continues to grow, Everyday BG is growing alongside it, with a focus on remaining a trusted and easy to use resource for both residents and businesses. Melinda welcomes input from the community and encourages people to share ideas, events and recommendations. The goal is simple: to create a space that helps people feel connected to the place they call home.
