Home Feature: Timeless Living

Some homes are found. Others are quietly waited for. For one local family, the story began years before a single renovation plan was drawn. The wife had grown up with a close friend whose parents owned a home that always stood out, not just for the house itself, but for the land it sat on. At one point, they made a simple comment that would eventually shape their future: if the home ever became available, they wanted it. Two years later, that moment arrived. “When her friend’s parents decided to sell, we knew immediately,” the homeowner recalls. “It was always in the back of our minds, but when it actually happened, it felt like everything lined up.” What drew them in wasn’t the structure as it stood, but the potential of the property. The lot offered space, privacy and a natural setting that felt increasingly rare. Still, they approached the purchase with clear eyes. The home would require a full transformation. From the beginning, the vision was ambitious. The couple partnered with local builder Kyle Kirby to reimagine the house from the ground up. What followed was less of a renovation and more of a reinvention. The home was taken down to the studs, creating a blank canvas for what would become a significantly expanded and refined space. An additional 3,000 square feet was added to the back of the home, allowing for a more open, functional layout that better suited the needs of a growing family. Every decision, from structural changes to finish selections, was made with long-term living in mind. The result was a home that not only met their expectations, but exceeded them. When it was entered into the local Parade of Homes, it went on to receive top honors across every category that year, a reflection of both the craftsmanship and the clarity of the vision behind it. While the interior tells a story of careful design, the exterior extends that narrative into something equally intentional. The backyard was developed into a fully realized retreat, designed to serve as both a private escape and a space for gathering. A pool and hot tub anchor the layout, complemented by an outdoor kitchen, a pool house and even a basketball court. The space balances recreation and relaxation, offering something for every member of the family. Inside, the home blends a polished aesthetic with deeply personal elements. The lower level, in particular, stands out as a space designed for both comfort and connection. Anchored by stone accents that bring texture and warmth, the basement includes a full kitchen, bedroom, bathroom and a series of built-in bunk beds that create a sense of both function and fun. A cozy living area and dining nook complete the space, making it ideal for hosting guests or accommodating extended family stays. But beyond the finishes and layout, it’s the details that give the home its character. “The table in the dining nook downstairs was originally my mother’s,” the homeowner shares. “We refinished it and built the entire eating area around it.” That approach, designing around meaningful pieces rather than simply decorating, carries throughout the home. Family portraits line the walls, alongside historic images of the homeowner’s parents dating back to the early 1900s. These elements add a sense of continuity, connecting past and present in a space that otherwise feels entirely new. Upstairs, the primary bedroom reflects a different kind of intention. Expanded as part of the renovation, it was designed to function as a true retreat. One of its more unique features is a television that lowers from the ceiling at the foot of the bed, a detail that speaks to both comfort and thoughtful integration of technology. “It’s definitely my favorite space,” she says. “It feels like somewhere we can completely unwind.” What began as a quiet hope tied to a childhood connection has evolved into something much more substantial. The home stands as a blend of vision, timing and craftsmanship, shaped not just by design choices, but by the personal history woven into every corner.
