Rev Up for the 150th Derby with a Different Kind of Horsepower

The National Corvette Museum and NCM Motorsports Park located in Bowling Green, Kentucky, will serve as the pace car for Derby fun starting on April 22nd with the introduction of their “Horsepower Experience.” On select dates in April and May, the derby-themed experience will provide Derbygoers a type of racing with more of a throaty growl, and can be enjoyed before or after the Derby’s Sesquicentennial.

Located just one hour and 45 minutes south of Louisville, Bowling Green offers the excitement of racing that nears 500 horsepower (hp), as opposed to horseracing which only reaches around 15hp. With four laps around the scenic countryside at the Motorsports Park track in a C8 Corvette, Derby-influenced menu items at the museum’s own Stingray Grill and admission to the National Corvette Museum, Bowling Green is embracing both kinds of horsepower celebrated across the bluegrass. This package is sold for $249, but it’s valued at more than $330.

While Bowling Green is typically known for cars and caves, the city and county also have several aligning themes with the Derby. “Big Red,” better known as Triple Crown winner Secretariat, shares the name of Western Kentucky University’s nationally recognized mascot. Additionally, both Louisville and Bowling Green have iconic spires - one of the first things you’ll see when you arrive into town from the north is the 12-story red spire atop the Skydome. Both equestrian and car lovers will enjoy this unique opportunity to immerse themselves in the spirit of the Kentucky Derby and enjoy a different type of racing this spring.
