REALTORS® Advocate For Homeowner Rights

On Tuesday, February 6, a delegation of local REALTORS® met at the Capitol to encourage lawmakers to pass HB88. Tony Vance, Carla Anderson, Gabby Springs, Kelley McGough, Christine Morgan, Cindy Payne, Steve Cline, Angi Cline, Stacey Fergerson, Connie Pittman, Justin Reesy, Lloyd Ferguson and other Kentucky REALTORS® support the act which is related to unlawful trade practices.

Section 3 of the bill is of particular interest to the REALTORS® because it limits real estate listing contracts to a maximum of two years and prohibits liens from being attached to listing contracts. The REALTORS® believe the bill is an important step in protecting homeowner rights.

REALTOR® Association of Southern Kentucky (RASK) President Vance highlighted the broader role of REALTORS® beyond just transactions. “We genuinely care about our communities and the well-being of our clients,” he said “We are here to actively advocate for consumer interests. This consumer protection bill is primarily intended to protect our aging communities.”

The REALTORS® gathered as part of the 2024 Kentucky REALTOR® (KYR) Legislative Conference. The KYR Legislative meetings were held on February 5 through February 7 in Lexington. HB88 was introduced on January 2, 2024, and passed the House with a unanimous vote on January 17. The bill is sponsored by Representative Michael Meredith (R) of Oakland and co-sponsored by Representatives Kevin Jackson (R) of Bowling Green, Shawn McPherson (R) of Scottsville, and 16 other representatives.
