Winter Dance Party Concert

Story and photography by Jimbob Baird

On February 2, 2019, Orchestra Kentucky along with special guest performers brought back the songs of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and The Big Bopper. The evening’s entertainment was an ardent recreation of the 1956 Winter Dance Party that featured hits of Buddy Holly, Ritchie Valens, and The Big Bopper. The guest performers along with the orchestra truthfully recreated the singing and appearance of those long lost musicians. Patrons sang along to “Summertime Blues,” reminisced while holding hands to “Donna,” and cried to the tune of Peggy Sue.”

The Winter Dance Party concert was number 4 of the Retro Series which are sponsored by Jim and Darlene Johnson. Orchestra Kentucky performances are held at the Southern Kentucky Performing Arts Center, downtown Bowling Green.
