Junior Achievement of South Central KY's President Honored with Prestigious National Award



Bowling Green, KY— Drew Martin, president of Junior Achievement (JA) of South Central Kentucky, has been named the 2018 recipient of the Junior Achievement Karl Flemke Pioneer Achievement Award. The award is given to first-time JA presidents who have demonstrated outstanding contributions and achievements to the organization. The award was presented at the Junior Achievement USA® National Leadership Conference in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on July 19, 2018. Martin was chosen over two other finalists for this national award.

This year Junior Achievement of South Central Kentucky saw a 15% increase in student reach of traditional programs into both existing and brand new territories as a result of expanding fundraising efforts. This is a growth of 30% over the last three years making the organization one of the fastest growing operations in the nation. For the second consecutive year, Junior Achievement of South Central Kentucky launched a 36-week awareness campaign thanks to Wendy’s. This campaign showcased one Junior Achievement classroom each week with multiple segments on the daily news programs. The campaign highlighted the JA classroom photo, the JA volunteer, the JA program and what the students were learning.

“Winning this award is a tremendous honor, but it really represents the hard work of the staff and board of directors of Junior Achievement of South Central Kentucky,” said Drew Martin.

“With the help of our volunteers, donors, and educators, I hope we can continue to experience significant growth and empower young people to own their future economic success, plan for their future, and make smart academic and economic choices.”

Jack E. Kosakowski, president and CEO of Junior Achievement USA, noted, “Drew’s accomplishments are a strong example for all new JA executives to follow as the organization expands its ability to empower students to make a connection between what they learn in school and how it can be applied in the real world. We are thrilled to recognize him with this award.”

The Karl Flemke Pioneer Achievement Award is named after Karl Flemke, the president of Junior Achievement Inc. from 1982 until his death in 1994.
